It makes me a little bit sad to announce this

It turns out that Graeme Smith's hair is not the carefully styled, captainly hair I thought it was.

Gallo has a picture of Graeme and his brother (whom we shall call mini-Graeme being that he's just a shorter, slightly rounder version of Graeme*) and he has captainly hair too! It's clearly genetic hair.

The fluffy, non-captainly hair must be the bit he puts effort into.

I'd post an image, but I can't be bothered to work out how. You should go here and see Graeme being welcomed back to South Africa by people with banners. There really should have been garlands and musical tributes.

* being a younger sibling myself, I should point out that Graeme could just be a larger, more svelte version of him, but I know Graeme's name so we'll have to go with that option.

But it's brilliant. It means he's *genetically* captainly. It also means that there are days when he deliberately decides to be fluffy.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It is brilliant, I just have to adjust my thought processes to Graeme styling the fluffiness.

I hope Graeme's brother captains something - it would be shame to waste the genetic predisposition.

[identity profile] indian-skimmer.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
He wrestles lions, I think that can count as being captainly.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That's very true. In fact, I think it might technically count as more captainly.

[identity profile] indian-skimmer.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It is. You'd feel quite sorry for anyone who had to be Graeme's brother if they hadn't somehow managed to find the one job that's actually slightly cooler than being an international cricket captain.

[identity profile] sophia-silfaery.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Gavin :) And wow he really does look like him doesn't he...just like you say a few inches shorter.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, from now on I'm referring to Graeme as Maxi-Gavin. Only you will know why.

[identity profile] sophia-silfaery.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe I wonder where he got his tall from.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Graeme so came home planning to put an end to 20 years of sibling rivalry by announcing the captaincy and then Little Brother announced he'd just scored a job chasing giraffe.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect his genes saw that he was going to be in charge of Morne Morkel and Paul Harris and put in an extra burst.

[identity profile] sophia-silfaery.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And yet it was not enough. Poor G, deciding at...what was it 10 years old was clearly not quite early enough.

I have just had a brain link. Did you add me on Facebook?

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He needed to start at 8, obviously.

Erm...I don't think so. But I've been known to do random things on facebook by accident. I have a picture of a lemur as my icon thing...

[identity profile] indian-skimmer.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm reposting that because I was wrong about the ages. Graeme just *looks* like someone's baby brother.

It must help when they have that family dinner and Graeme talks all about hitting a ball and running a bit, and brother gets to describe how he wrestled a rhino into a crate.

[identity profile] indian-skimmer.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
On a totally unrelated note, I do very much like the smart fleecy bodywarmer. It's smart. I'd buy that if they made it in tiny sizes.

[identity profile] make-a-move.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I want his fleece. Not that specific one, obviously, because it's his, but one like it. It's rather ace.

Also, thought you'd want to know, this entry showed up on my google alert for Graeme.

Apparently I can't stop commenting.

[identity profile] make-a-move.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Looking at the photos, he's signing autographs. How?! He's got no arms! Well, he has, but you know what I mean.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's very smart isn't it? It looks like the kind of thing that's been designed for people who regularly have to grab something when evacuating a hotel for a fire alarm.

Re: Apparently I can't stop commenting.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently there was a shot of him on sky sports news attempting to sign a small person's autograph but clearly struggling to form words.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hurrah! I never seem to remember not to use full names. Although, maybe Graeme has a google alert on himself and will read that you want his fleece and send it to you, you never know.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Graeme's wrestled Nella on to a plane, but it's not quite the same.

[identity profile] make-a-move.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I can but hope. Maybe it will magically turn up on my doorstep, even though he doesn't know my address or who I am, but that's what the magic's for.

Re: Apparently I can't stop commenting.

[identity profile] make-a-move.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I caught the end of that! I thought I'd catch it again in an hour's time, but they never showed it again :(

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
If Graeme contacts me asking for your address, shall give it out to him?

Re: Apparently I can't stop commenting.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
I know! I was told about it, and watched the whole day and they never showed it again.

[identity profile] indian-skimmer.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
He's probably eyed the tranquiliser gun once or twice.

[identity profile] indian-skimmer.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe Cricket South Africa will read it and realise the demand for smart sleeveless fleeces in women's sizes. And ODI sun hats.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
He so has. It would make life so much easier.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Test Sun Hats. I still can't believe you can't get a test sun hat anywhere. maybe that's why Dale's is all squashed and dirty?

[identity profile] indian-skimmer.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You think they just get issued one when they start and if they spill Tango on it they have to go buy another one from the online shop?

Re: Apparently I can't stop commenting.

[identity profile] indian-skimmer.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It was lovely. The child dashed towards him all excited and expecting an exciting autograph and he left slightly disappointed with an illegible scrawl on a bit of paper. Graeme did look very apologetic about it, so it's not really his fault.

[identity profile] lemonbella.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, CSA isn't made of money. And Graeme's tired of having to pay for it out of his wages

[identity profile] make-a-move.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes please. That would be most pleasing.

Re: Apparently I can't stop commenting.

[identity profile] make-a-move.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
At least he tried though. I'm sure other people, naming no names, would have just said no.
