I applied for a very cool job recently (not the one I was head hunted for: that one is a long-term prospect and still in the pipeline), I found out today I have been shortlisted for interview: This is Very Exciting.
However, the interview is next Monday and I cannot make it as I have training courses booked all day and cannot let 40 people down: This is Annoying.
The job people have decided to go ahead with their interviews and only offer a further interview date if they don't find someone from the Monday interviews: This is More Annoying
But....this probably means that I was either an outside shot or they already have a candidate in mind, thereby saving me a wasted trip to Devon: This is A Relief
Also, the job was part time and based in Devon: whilst I would have been happy with either of those, both is a lot to gamble on. To take a part time post would mean shunting forward my plans to run my own training and consultancy business to make up the wages shortfall and this would be a challenge whilst also having to relocate and to a place as inconvenient as Devon. So avoiding difficult choices is also A Relief.
However, it means I don't get to email my boss tomorrow and tell her I'm taking a day off to go to an interview for another job: This is Annoying.
See? An equal number of Reasons to be Annoyed and Reasons to be Relieved. Graeme's penguin can't decide whether to be a bit annoyed or relieved either.
