I am in a happy place....

Two Lexes!

I loved it... and that's even if you took away the fact there was a solid 45 minutes of Lex.

Lex beating the crap out of Clark and telling him to remember in the furture that there was a day someone beat him. That's the foreshadowing of old, classic Smallville; the kind that makes you reconsider the future canon. Superman hates Lex Luthor for many reasons, but the most abiding one (and the one he'll never admit to) is that Lex is the one guy who can beat him.

Lex replaying the "prove to me you're worthy" scene from season one - and being responsible for the return of proper Lionel.

"You'd better hurry before something unfortunate happens...(shoots Jonathan in the leg)...like that"

There were also moments when I could see the flash of future comic book Lex. He's not there yet, but I can now see how he gets to that point.

It wasn't perfect, and it would have been a much better episode in season three (when there was good direction, when the writers talked to each other, when MR wasn't so desperate to get a chance to do anything that he got a little overexuberant) but I gave up on Smallville being anything akin to previous seasons around about 'Spell'

It's a relief to finally have Clark Kent/Lex Luthor back as the main storyline - it's been an afterthought for too long. They've already lost most of the impact of what they were working towards for the last three years, but I'm grateful they gave Lex an opportunity to glimpse his future.

I'm actually sad we get the old Lex back. He just seems pretty pathetic now.

So, I loved this episode; Smallville on the other hand, is now just another show.
