In which I prove I'm English and talk about the weather

I had the journey home from hell yesterday. It took me seven hours to get home from Leicester (it usually takes an hour and a half): including three hours sat stock still on the M1; four roads being closed just as I was getting on them; nearly being squashed by an HGV being blown over; one full travelodge; and more of Northampton than I ever wished to see. Thanks to indian_skimmer for the remote travelodge location and Stuart Broad related entertainment.


England managed to do that thing where they make it look like they aren't as bad as they actually are. They are that bad; they're not fooling me anymore. Also, Ian Bell really needs to stop running himself out. I'm starting to think he just really likes public humiliation.



The South Africans, on the other hand, are doing that thing where they make themselves look incompetent and then turn out to be rather good. For the record, this is a much better approach to take.



Geraint News should really have it's own little title sequence and jaunty theme tune it's become such a regular feature...I was pleasantly woken this morning by Geraint being generally lovely. On the radio, not in person. If he'd woken me in person at 5.45am this morning I'd have told him to piss off, however lovely he was being. (I'd have regretted it later once I'd realised exactly what I'd done) Anyway, I digress. He failed to beat the crap out of any of the TMS presenters, which is a bit of a shame. I live for the day he cracks and beats Jonathan Agnew to death with his shoe. That day is coming and we should all be prepared.

In person he would probably have woken you with coffee rather than via intrusive text message. Or via two intrusive text messages because he got a bit over-excited. I have faith you would have coped.

It was a welcome intrusive text message. I actually went "oh!", which might well have been my response had Geraint woken me up, followed by a little bit of concern as to how he broke into my flat.

I'd like to think that, when faced with an incredibly attractive man waking me up and wanting me to pay attention, my inner girl would take control. However, I suspect I'd throw something at him, swear and then find myself running after him in my pyjamas shouting "I'm sorry! I didn't realise it was you! Come back!"

Sorry about the awful journey. I've heard that you've been having awful weather. It's actually been quite nice hear in the last few days, since the dry heat has broken and we've had some storms. We're in the middle of a nasty drought, so it was welcome, and my rainwater tank is full again, so I can water the garden.

I've just managed to respond to your email, and to the super-speedy beta you gave me. And I saw a picture of Geraint Jones recently, so I finally understand what you've been going on about (but I've been told he's rather short!).

Anyway, since I don't have anything more important to say than the ramblings above, I'll go now. ;)

He is short but he *thinks* he's a six foot four fast bowler, and it's all in the mind. You have to see him being all bouncy and groping other men to really appreciate the wonderfulness.

I'd love to see him groping other men, but almost every time something good happens for England, all we see on Australian TV is the dejected Aussie walking off the field. I think we're a little self-obsessed.

He's not short at all and lemonbella is rude to suggest it. He's a man of perfectly acceptable height stuck in a team with a lot of men who are ridiculously tall and/or actual giants. It simply makes him look short on TV.

I can't remember who told me he was short, but I'll tell them off for you if I remember.

I really know very little about cricket or cricketers, so I'm relying on second hand information.

He claims to be 5' 10". He's quite clearly 5' 8". I don't think shortness is a problem, I think it's incredibly lovely. It's just that indian_skimmer is having a bit of a crisis because her usual type is 9 foot tall.

I'm fine thank you very much. I'd love to say I'd been far too busy to chat because I've been dashing all over the country in an exciting manner, but the truth is I got back in September and since then haven't really been any further than the sofa. It's a nice sofa though, and very comfy.
