Boris Johnston. That's all I have to say. I haven't recovered from that enough to contemplate the far worse reality that 69,000 people voted BNP.

I'm polishing my placards as we speak.

I get protesting voting, I really do, and the Labour party have done a lot to require protest (not least of all the 10% tax rate thing and the ridiculous plans to reduce inheritance tax) but the BNP? Boris Johnston?

However, none of this makes me quite so angry as the fact that the turn out was 30%. People were beaten to death in Zimbabwe three months ago just for queuing at a polling booth and 70% of British people can't even be arsed to get off their sofas and invalidate their ballot?

On the plus side, despite my brief, horrifyingly middle class joy at realising I'm slightly better off with the reduction in the 22% tax rate, I've rung the socialist worker party and they're happy for me to retain my membership as long as I sell some magazines in penance.

Okay, so it turns out that Boris Johnston wasn't all I had to say.
